Ubuntu in the Linux world coexist an endless range of distributions adapted to different audiences and with applications, desktops and features that make them different from each other.

The two most popular are Ubuntu Linux and Linux Mint. The first came from Debian, one of the first. For his part. Linux Mint appeared as a variant of Ubuntu itself.

It has been several years and each has gone its own way, gaining adepts and heading the popularity lists of Linux distributions.

Ubuntu and Linux Mint have a lot in common. The two have a similar origin: the search for a Linux suitable for all users and that allows to perform the basic tasks without complicating life nor access the terminal every two by three. Both are updated twice a year.

Support is important, but while Ubuntu has made an effort to keep on a 700 MB CD, Linux Mint has made the leap to DVD, including codecs, drivers and other extras that are downloaded via Ubuntu via the Internet.

LINUX DISTRIBUTION

A Linux distribution (often abbreviated as distro) is an operating system made from a software collection, which is based upon the Linux kernel and, often, a package management system. Linux users usually obtain their operating system by downloading one of the Linux distributions, which are available for a wide variety of systems ranging from embedded devices (for example, OpenWrt) and personal computers (for example, Linux Mint) to powerful supercomputers (for example, Rocks Cluster Distribution).
